Kanyasa Ward aspirant Jackie Paul on Valentine Day celebrated with 164 girls by mentoring them and offering sanitary pads.
The celebration was organised at St. Joseph Alendo Girls’ Secondary School in the ward after learners complained of lacking the basic commodity.
Each girl received two packers of the pad that will see them benefit in the next two years.
Speaking to Migori News, Paul said most girls in the region have been dropping out of the school because of the psychological torture during their periods.
She said that most girls in the region have been married at a very tender age because men have taken advantage of their lower economic status.
“This has resulted into high school dropout rate among the girls in the region which calls for a need by both national and county government to allocate pads,” she said.
She said those targeted should be from very poor families.
At the same time she challenged parents to offer girls with support during their education so that girls can be able to stay in schools.
Nyatike Sub County is among top sub counties in Migori County that has been experiencing high school drop out among the girls resulting from high cases of early pregnancies among the female teenagers which stands at 28 percent.
