Migori Governor Okoth Obado has moved with speed to avert numerous strikes against his administration by sponsoring 24 MCAs to a retreat in Mwanza, Tanzania.
The MCAs mostly from Budget Committee, left on Monday and will be back on Friday to discuss the county’s supplementary budget,
They will each be paid at least Sh20,000 in subsistence allowance, meaning they will pocket a cool Sh100, 000 at the end of the trip with executive who are set to join them receiving more.
The county will spend at least Sh2.4 million on the trip.
The Budget Committee has 16 members and the additional eight are said to have been included in the trip for unclear reasons.
“This is simply an outing which has nothing to do with public interest. What is so special in Mwanza that could not be done in Migori, Kisii or Kisumu?” posed Mr Richard Sollo, the North Kamagambo MCA.
Assembly clerk Tom Opere said the trip is organised by executive to offer “a conducive environment” for MCAs to have “full concentration, away from home.”
But Sollo said the meeting was a waste and a means to bribe the members as impeachment against Obado is looming.
