Rongo sub-county Deputy county commissioner Joseph Satia has stopped selling of petrol product and other inflammable substances in small bottles and can in a bid to avert incidences of fuel deaths in the area.
He has issued a directive to the chiefs and local leaders to identify those who engage in such business and have them arrested if found selling petrol products along the roads and business centers in the area.
Speaking yesterday during Jamuhuri day celebrations at Sigiria secondary school in South Kamagambo ward, Satia said the move will prevent suspects from killing one another and destroy other peoples properties in the area.
This comes barely a month after an incident occurred at Ndege Oriedo,in north Kamagambo ward after a woman bought petrol on a can burnt down her neighbor in a house after domestic squabbles.
He said that he is going to issue a secular to the petrol station proprietors in Rongo and its environs not to sell petrol to anybody in a bottle or a cans and must a quire license to in case of other businesses which require petrol use outside the station.
“I will not relent and see our people die in circumstances that can be averted and from now on security personnel will be going round in Rongo town and its environs to ensure such dangerous business is stopped. In case your vehicle or motorcycle has gone out of fuel find a way of filling it but not buy fuel using such means since others will take that advantage,” Said satia.
He has called upon the residents to assist in ensuring peace prevails at all times with the security issues which has been a crisis in the area being addressed for development opportunities.
