Corrupt land surveyors in Rongo sub-county have been put on notice and may lose their job in a bid to bring sanity in the lands department and deal with land injustices that have been witnessed in the area for long time now.
This is according to Rongo sub-county Deputy County commissioner Mr. Joseph Satia who said that surveyors in collaborations with the unscrupulous leaders have contributed to the deaths that have been witnessed in the past over land disputes as they are being enticed by some community members for selfish gain.
He said that the surveyors must follow the land ethics and anybody found doing the opposite shall be dealt with according to the law and when ever doing the survey must involve the chiefs ,family members and representative from the land board.
Speaking in Rongo town during the launch of Rongo Sub-county lands board members, Mr.Satia said that the residents have been faced with several challenges in regards to land injustices, land disputes especially government lands and institutions saying the board will commence its cases in north and East Kamagambo ward which has been affected over time.
He added that the government has put mechanisms that will ensure that those who must purchase or sell their lands must consult their family first and come to a general consensus saying that some people have negate the orders that have resulted into family disputes consequently turning into fights and deaths in the family or the society at large.
On his part Migori county land registrar George Obondo applauded the DCC for his effort saying that Rongo becomes the second sub-county after suna west to constitute a working land board which will ensure land cases which has hit the area is solved amicably.
“For a decade now we have only had one board for the whole Migori county but with the devolve functions now each Sub. County is required to constitute its own board members to deal with cases of land disputes in their locality that will improve the services in the lands department,” said Obondo.
He at the same time urged all schools and all those who are using government land to ensure they acquire land title deeds to avoid disputes for selfish acquisition that have erupted in the past for saying that those who will be caught using government land shall face full force of the law.
He asked the board members to ensure they work together with the area chiefs to guarantee non corrupt leaders in matters pertaining to land issues in the area.
