Shock has gripped residents of Marera village in Nyamanga location, Suna East after a candidate at Nyango Secondary School died after allegedly drinking ethanol.

The deceased George Ogutu and three colleagues stole ethanol on Friday after Chemistry practical paper.
Area chief Bernard Aliwa said Ogutu was the only student who developed complication after the rest took small quantity of the chemical.

“They stole the chemical from laboratory and filled up the lab container with water,” Aliwa said.
Patrick Ogutu Ondeke, the deceased father said his son was brought home on Sunday after he complained of dizziness, convulse and poor eyesight from school.

“We knew our son was in school revising for his remaining examinations when he was brought here on Sunday,” he said.

The father said his son was rushed to Akidiva Hospital where he died on Monday morning.

Simon Ocholla Migori sub-county director of education said the school reported the issue on Monday when they realized the student was absent during Biology paper.
