A driver at Rongo level four hospital is being held at Rongo police station after being accused of stealing 80 liters of fuel.

The driver in the facility was nabbed by watchmen at the hospital main gate as he was trying to maneuver his way out with 80 litres of fuel that was to be used in the hospital generator.

The said driver is said to have delivered some liters of fuel to the hospital but tactfully kept the said fuel in the van to unknown destination.

As he was driving out, the security guards from Maston security services who are manning the hospital gate moved swiftly after being tipped by an officer in the facility and asked him where he was taking the remaining eighty litres of fuel in the vehicle but he could not give any answer. This prompted them to alert the hospital administrator who informed the police who came immediately and arrested the culprit.

“Items have been getting lost from the hospital under unclear circumstances and we have been blamed for such loses by the same people working in this facility. We will be vigilant to arrest any other suspect who may be tempted to smuggle items from the facility as we have also realized that they camouflage on the government vehicles to outsmart us,” said the security guard who did not want to be identified.

Rongo OCPD Jonathan Kisaka condemned the incident saying a number of patients has been denied services at the facility due unscrupulous staff warning them of stern action according to the law.

He said the culprit will be arraigned in Rongo law court on Monday to face charges of attempting to steal from the hospital.

This comes barely a month after a computer disappeared from the facility under unclear circumstances.
