A bodaboda rider died instantly after he was involved in an afternoon grisly road accident in Migori town.
Confirming the accident, Migori County Police Commander David Kirui said the rider whose identity is yet to be established hit by two vehicles dying on the spot.
Kirui said that the rider was overtaking two vehicles headed towards Migori from Isebania oblivious of an oncoming Toyota Probox.
“He had successfully overtaken a driving school vehicle and a bus and the other vehicle headed his way was approaching fast,” Kirui said.
The County commander said that it was then that the rider decided to make an abrupt change of direction back to his lane and was hit by the bus’ headlights.
“The impact with the bus pushed him towards the Toyota Probox that he was avoiding leading to his right foot being amputated at the ankles,” he narrated.
The County police boss however said that accidents caused by bodabodas are on the rise and most of them were caused through negligence.
“Bodabodas, in as much as they have created employment, are the leading causes of accidents and loss of lives on our roads as owners don’t follow due procedure,” Kirui explained.
He said that most riders who were arrested on the wrong are always defiant and this poses a challenge to the police in ensuring their safety.
The County Commander noted that riders had a tendency of organizing mini-demonstration to the police station demanding the release of their arrested colleagues.
He however urged all road users to abide by traffic rules as it is the only way that to improve their safety on the road.
The rider died on the spot and his body is preserved at Migori County Referral hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
