Fire gutted down and destroyed several staff houses at Sony Sugar Company on Wednesday night.
Fire broke out at 1am and a quick rejoinder by Sony Sugar fire engine managed to put off the fire it fully spread to other houses.
Sony Sugar Company managing Jane Pamela said properties of unknown amount of money were reduced to ashes in the inferno.
“We suspect that the inferno was as result of the power fault when electricity came back at 1am after an earlier outage,” he she said.
The owner of the house was in a night shift when the wife noticed sparks coming from the cable connecting the fridge to the switch when the power was back at 1 am.
“Before she rushed to unplug the cable; the appliance was already on fire and its spread all over the house,” she said.
Awendo OCPD Dan Kinyua they suspect the fire was caused by power surge as traders said frequent power outage has negative e affected their businesses.
“We have lost many electrical appliances due to power surge,” Jared Obuya, a trader said.
