Junet mourns Raila: he nurtured me and many others in politics

CONDOLENCE STATEMENT ON THE PASSING ON OF THE RT. HON. RAILA AMOLO ODINGA.

I am profoundly saddened by the passing on of the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, the former Prime Minister of Kenya and Party Leader of the ODM Party.

Raila Odinga embodied an enduring commitment to the idea that Kenya was bigger than any of us, an ideal which informed many of his epic fights and grand compromises; each time pulling our country from the brink of collapse.

Yet it was not just the Kenya he never wanted to live in that put him in the frontlines of the struggle, but the nation he wanted to live in; and lead. This is the Kenya he could endure everything for; including the many dark nights and hollow mornings when he lost out to nefarious machinations.

Baba Raila Odinga nurtured me and many of us in the politics of our country Kenya; of Africa and the World.

From him we learnt a deep sense of love and patriotism for our country.

The torture in our hearts and the sorrow carried in this moment, are undescribable.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to Mama Ida Odinga; to his children Rosemary, Raila Jnr and Winnie; to his Elder brother Hon. Dr. Oburu Odinga and the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family; to colleagues in Parliament and ODM; and to all Kenyans during this period of shock and loss.

Hon. Junet Mohamed, EGH, MP.
Member of Parliament, Suna East Constituency and Leader of Minority Party, National Assembly of Kenya.
