Kenya police has launched a manhunt for suspects who vandalised police and anti-corruption agency vehicles during a raid.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations on their Facebook page said they have initiated investigation into a violent incident that occurred when Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers were working in Trans Nzoia county.
The EACC officers had search warrants to investigate irregular procurement and fictitious payments amounting to KSh 1.4 billion by the Trans Nzoia County Government.
Officials were searching the official residence of area governor George Natembeya to gather evidence for the payments that occurred during the financial years 2022/2023 and 2024/2025.
“The searches targeted the residence and office of Governor George Natembeya, along with four other individuals implicated in the case,” DCIO said.
The search at Governor Natembeya’s residence was conducted in the presence of family members, the county attorney, and legal representatives.
“The operation was disrupted when a hostile group of individuals forcibly entered the premises. Overpowering the security personnel assigned to safeguard the operation,” police said.
The gang went on a rampage maliciously damaging five EACC vehicles.
Crucial documents already seized during the raid were stolen alongside other valuables from the vehicles.
Police termed the attack as a blatant attempt to undermine the rule of law and obstruct justice.
Police said they will arrest and charge suspects.
