(VIDEO) Migori TTC ventures into improved kieyeji kukus project to boost income, nutrition

The Migori Teachers Training College, has ventured into poultry rearing to provide an alternative revenue stream.

The project which has now picked up like bush fire, earning the institution thousands of money, was started in 2020.
According to Naftali Nyang’iti, the school deputy principal, depending on the school fees, has seen the school struggling in terms of development and academics, bearing the delays of the school capitation fees.

According to Nyang’iti, the school has experienced challenges associated to a small space for the project, expensive feeds as well as disease attack.

He explains that the project, is a precursor to the university courses that the school plans to provide begining May, in collaboration with Rongo University.

According to Charles Nyaanga, the county livestock director, the project will also act as a learning center not only for students, but also for other institutions interested to venture into poultry farming.

Dr. Martha, a veterinary officer, said that most farmers are still struggling with lack of knowledge on the best vaccine for particular poultry diseases.

She however, envisioned a future where poultry farming will develop bearing it’s cost effective nature.
