A Migori county government staff has organised a tournament in Suna West constituency to ensure that football pitches and talent do not idle away.
While teams from other constituencies were enjoying tournaments, in Suna West the area legislator Peter Masara chose to grace other tourneys in the region.
An accountant in the county Eric Ochieng Jalang’o and his close friends organised the third edition of the Suna West Annual tournament which kicked off with over 30 teams, ten more than last year, participating.
“We did not have any tournament in Suna West while teams from our neighbouring constituencies enjoyed several so we decided to bail them out,” Jalang’o said.
He said for the past three years they have been consistent with the tournament and this year the need has been high because of pressure from other tournaments in the county.
“We came together with friends and we decided to close the year with the finals before schools re-open next week,’ he said.
So far 22 teams showed interest in the senior category and four in the wpmen division while for the first time 8 teams from under 14 category showed interest.
So far Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko has donated eight pair of unforms among other benefactors.
The first team to win in men’s category will get Sh60,000 price money, a uniform and trophy while number two will get Sh40,000 and uniform, third placed team will get Sh20,000 and a uniform with thr fourth getting Sh10,000 and a ball.
For the under 14 category the tip price will be Sh30,000, a uniform and a trophy, second placed team will get Sh20,000, and uniform, while the third placed team will get Sh15,000 and uniform with the fourth going home with Sh1o,000 and uniform ball.
In ladies category the top team will go home with Sh30,000, trophy and uniform, second placed team will get Sh20,000 and uniform, third placed will get Sh15,000 while the fourth best will get Sh10,000.
Jalang’o said among friends who helped in organising the tournament is Fahid Twahid of Uhlsport.
“We will ensure that fields and talents in Suna West constituency have games to shape our year,” he said.
Fred Ochieng, the tournament chairman said despite putting registration fees they were overwhelmed with teams and “in spirit of success we have offered a platform and we still dream of creating a Suna West constituency league soon.”
The two said the tournament will offer Suna West match officials like referees and coaches who were trained by Football Kenya Federation get a platform to nurture their talents too sentiments shared by Maurice Ouma, area FKF official.
