President William Ruto graced the inaugural Suna East MP Junet Mohammed annual tournament on Monday at Migori county stadium.
Though not present physically, the head of state gave a Sh1m donation to the tournament which was handed over by Majority leader Kimani Ichungwa who also gave his Sh500,000 donation.
During the tournament, leaders called on the president to help build the Migori county stadium to be at par to others in Nyanza counties.
“We are here because the government is out to serve all Kenyans, I will tell him ?Ruto) to build stadium and we will take it as leaders to push the agenda,” Ichungwa said.
Junet said although Migori leaders had previously asked for the stadium, they will pile pressure after the head of state promised Sh500m to finish another in Homa Bay county.
“We will ask the president again for the need for an international stadium, what he is doing in Homa Bay is making us jealous,” Junet joked.
Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko said with both majority and minority leaders of parliament he is banking on other legislators to push the agenda for a new stadium.
“In Migori county we have been working with the national government to push through the stadium, we don’t sit in parliament and we see a ray as leaders will push it through,” Ayacko said.
