Kanu leaders in Kisumu County have issued a strong condemnation of the insults and abusive language directed at the President on social media.
Led by County Chair Keziah Opondo, they described this behaviour as profoundly disrespectful to the head of state.
“We are asking parents to speak to their children not to be misused to insult or abuse other leaders,” said Opondo.
Kanu delegate George Oulu Nyawara also joined fray.
He said President deserves respect from all Kenyans.
“Let us give the President, respect he deserves as head of state,” said Nyawara.
The leaders called on the youth engaging in such conduct to cease their actions, emphasizing the importance of civility in political discourse.
This condemnation follows a recent surge in incidents involving the abduction of youth, some of whom have been reported as confrontational and disrespectful toward the president.
Opondo criticized these negative sentiments, asserting that the President, like any other citizen, deserves respect and dignity.
She reminded the public that the Kenyan Constitution, particularly Chapter Four on the Bill of Rights, guarantees the right to respect for all individuals, including the Head of state.
In response to the ongoing crisis, the President has pledged to take swift action against the alarming trend of abductions but urged parents to guide their children towards respectful behaviour and adherence to the law.
He emphasized the importance of instilling values that discourage disrespect towards leaders and promote peaceful engagement.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga at the weekend also voiced his concerns, calling on the government to halt these abductions, which he believes are fueling public outrage and could incite further demonstrations.
Kenyans have been mobilizing on social media platforms, urging citizens to take to the streets in protest against what they see as a dangerous and growing trend.
The current situation reflects a deepening divide in political sentiments, highlighting the urgent need for dialogue and reconciliation within the country.
