The luo council of elders have condemned the Saturday chaos at Macalder copper mines where more than a dozen people were hurt.
Peter Otiang’a, the youth Ogai in the council chaired by Odungi Randa said the chaos had Ill political motive.
“Saturday was a sad day, as young leaders we need to bring unity and peace, not to be used to create chaos,” Otiang’a said.
During the chaos, Macalder Kanyarwanda MCA Felix Okwanyo and two police officers were among six people hurt in the chaos.
Dozen others were hurt too.
“We wish a quick recovery for those hurt in the melee, as youths especially those elected we should not be a front for causing chaos and mayhem,” Otiang’a said.
He was addressing the press in Rongo town.
Otiang’a said he was among those who attended the function alongside governor Ochillo Ayacko, but youths were incited to disrupt the meeting.
Earlier Okwanyo had vowed to disrupt the meeting in the mines which saw youths from different faction sloughing it off.
“As young elders we call for leaders to cut down their political differences and bring in dialogue to spur development not fights,” he said..
Otiang’a said the tension and chaos was used by other leaders to fuel the chaos and try to embarass Ayacko.
He called on mining cabinet secretary Hassan Joho and his Cooperative counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya to help diffuse the tension in the area.
“Mining is a key point for development and in the tension it is miners who suffer, we want both national and county leaders to aid in easing tension,” he said.
