Migori county health and children stakeholders met to build capacity for healthy growth of children.
Migori is part of seven counties in Lake Victoria region set to benefit from stakeholders engagement to ensure children born have a healthy start in life for the first 1,000 days after birth.
On May the project was launched in Migori, and on Friday stakeholders met in Migori town to build their capacity.
“We have taken up this initiative in the region because data shows that we are lagging behind nationally on health of new born and we need to catch up,” Roseline Otieno, a Chief Officer for Sports, Education and Culture said.
She said the early [art of a child’s life matter making the first 1,000 days very important to ensure a health life that will impact on education and ending poverty through secured socio-economic status as an adult.
She said Migori will support the project through leadership, financing, and community awareness since the area 43 percent of children under five years of age are at risk of poverty, poor health, poor nutrition, and other adversities.
“So far in Migori through our first lady Agnes Ayacko we have prioritize lactation of children,” she said.
