Why Migori Youth FC received no fees for Elly Owande signing by Dubai outfit Al Nasr

The joy of Migori Youth, the Kenya National Super League side, signing a plane to an Arab league will not translate into monetary benefit for now.

News of Elly Owande signing for United Arabs Emirates Pro League club Al Nasr excited fans and Migori and Nyanza sports fans received the news with joy, but money will not come by now.

Owande rose to prominence during the Cecafa Kagame Cup under-20 championship held in December 2023, where Kenya finished second after losing to Uganda in the final

Owande, who hails from a humble background, signed a three-year contract with the Dubai-based club after he succeeded following several weeks of trials.

In a letter from Al Nasr seen by Nyanza News, the transfer was termed as permanent.

“Greetings from the Football Company of Al Nasr Club, Dubai, UAE. We are pleased to formally offer a permanent free transfer for your player, EELLY AWINO OWANDE, to Al Nasr Football Club,” read part of the letter from the club.

Migori will not get any immediate compensation for the transfer, the club will receive 45% of any future sale of the player.

In his first media interview, Owande known for his lethal left foot thanked Migori Youth for their role in his career and the management for the opportunity to showcase his talent.

“My sincere gratitude goes out to Migori Youth Club, which has nurtured my growth and development since I was nine. I wish them well as they begin the new season,” he said.

He said the move was a dream come true come true saying the move will offer him “a whole new opportunity, and I’m determined to have a successful journey,”

Owande acknowledged that his first year at the club would be challenging, but he hopes to score 10 goals in his first season.
