Three people have been confirmed dead as malaria outbreak ravage Baringo county.
Baringo county government in a statement said since the month of June, there has been a gradual increase of Malaria positivity rate in the low lands of the region like Tiaty East and Baringo South Sub Counties.
“Unfortunately, the disease has so far cost three lives, 2 females aged 40yrs and 18 years and a 4years old child from the affected areas of Mukutani, Amaya and Akwichatis respectively,” the county said.
Government has formed a Multidisciplinary Response Team (MDT) which has been stationed in a camp at Lowetemoi/Akoret, one of the identified hot spots of Malaria outbreak.
The camp has so far treated 234 patients were seen at Lowetemoi/Atirir, Kongor and Kulol. .
“Out of these, 70 patients who met malaria case definition were tested with 20 samples turning positive for Malaria. This represents an average positivity of 36.63%. Contrary to social media reports falsely indicating a high number of casualties,” the county clarified.
The county said they had acquired additional 2,700 Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test (MRDTs) kits from partners to increase surveillance.
Baringo also recently launched 290,000 Long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) to all households in Kapau, Chesawach, Kongor, Kaghat, Kulol and Atirir malaria hotspot areas in Akoret Division.
