Former Royal Media Services journalist Nancy Kijana has been elected to safeguard welfare of Migori assembly workers among other officials..
The Migori County Assembly Workers Welfare Association (MICAWWA) members held peaceful elections on August 12 where Kijana, who made a career shift to civil service, becoming the Deputy Chair.
She was the immediate former Migori county reporter for the radio station before shifting careers.
In official assembly page, the assembly said the elections will “ensure that the welfare of members are taken care of after the tenure of the previous office came to an end in July this year.”
After two weeks of campaigns, voters picked their leaders in the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary and two members; male and a female by voters.
The electoion was ran by Maurice Wao as the returning officer alongside a team of commissioners.
The following were elected:
- Chairperson: Maurice Odundo (ICT) who emerged winner with 44 against Mohamed Ali’s ( Legislative) 22 votes.
- Vice Chairperson: Nancy Kijana (Public Relations) garnered 50 votes against Daniel Rioba’s ( Administration) 12 votes.
- Secretary: Ms. Jane Maroa( Hansard) emerged winner with 50 votes against Mary Gati’s( Administration) 14 votes.
- Treasurer: Richard Ambila (Finance) emerged the winner with 48 votes against Treza Nyamohanga (Library) who got 15 votes.
- Members: Stephen Waikena(Administration) and Ms. Beryl Oketch (Research) were elected unopposed.
The Assembly’s acting Clerk Collins Bala thanked the staff for the peaceful process and urged the new office to ensure Members welfare is taken seriously as per the Constitution.
“We also need to ensure the officials maximize and increase members contributions and savings,” Bala said.
