Migori county Orange Democratic Movement leaders and residents have backed area governor Ochillo Ayacko to take up the vacant party national chairman post.
The national party chairman post fell vacant after Treasury nominee and ex-nominated MP John Mbadi opted to be in government.
On Friday the county party leadership led by Secretary General Joseph Olala and residents led by Migori Bunge la Wananchu chairman Collins Osewe had separate press interviews to drum up support for Ayacko.
In both pressers the group thanked party leader Raila Odinga for the political gesture to work with government of President William Ruto.
“We first of all say a big thanks to Raila for the peace he has brought to the country, his skills has seen tension in the country go down,” Olala said.
He said they decided to come together and drum up support for Ayacko, whom they said fits the bill to fill the slot left by Mbadi.
“As Migori ODM party we put our faith on Ayacko and wish to ask others to consider him for the position of chairman,” Olala said.
His sentiments were shared by fellow officials Mary Nchagwa and Peter Kainda.
“Ayacko has been an MP, senator, governor and a minister apart from being an astute lawyer and worked in private sector both in Kenya and internationally. We bank on this to give the party the push needed in next general elections,” Kainda said.
Osewe said in the last appointments in government Migori county fell shot and Ayacko’s push for the chairman slot will be a move in the right direction.
