Ulanda center traders in South Sakwa Ward, Awendo constituency have called on restoration of street and flood lights after being in the dark for three months.
Residents and traders have called on area legislators Walter Owino, whom they termed as a work horse, and area MCA and assembly Majority Leader Ken Ouma to restore streets lights.
“In nearby centers like Mariwa street lights are on, but for us in the past three months our street lights and a flood light have been dark,” Zipporah ‘Nyar Chula’ Achieng’ said.
Speaking to the press at the center, they said they have been forced to close their businesses by 7pm which has been harder during the current rainy season.
“Nowadays by noon it starts to rain and when we think we can make money in late evening sales we are hampered by insecurity, we know our MP is the ox that ploughs when it comes to development, we wish he help us,” Nyar Chula said.
She said their plea is also directed to their MCA.
“For the past three months our school going children have also been affected this same problem of insecurity as they are afraid of being sexually assaulted,” Maren Were, a trader said.
The two said the center houses Ulanda Girls Secondary School and is active late into the night, which has been booming before the darkness.
“We are here in fear of insecurity, we wish to inform our leaders that we have already started talking to Kenya Power we wish to have their hand in ensuring the lights are back on,” Odongo Warende, the chairman of Ulanda Center Association said.
