Migori police were forced to fire in the air as they arrested a suspected bhang smuggler.

According to a police report, the suspect Paul Chacha, 38, was with a colleague next to a maize plantation in Kohego village Kuria West sub-county when they saw a police officer on patrol.

“His colleague managed to jump on his motorbike, ignited it and rode away. Chacha’s refused to start, he drew a sharp panga and attempted to attack officers,” Kimaiyo said.

It forced one of the officers to fire a 9mm bullet from his gun in the air to subdue the suspect.

The sack estimated to weigh 40 kilos was found stashed with bhang with a street value of Sh300,000 and the suspect was apprehended.

The suspect will be taken to court.
