Masara seeks Mwabe sympathy after alleged fall-out with Ochillo, ODM

Suna West MP Peter Masara is in the works to endear himself to Migori gubernatorial aspirant Philip Mwabe as the race for Suna West intensifies.

This is after the two parted in a reportedly bitter divorce shortly after the 2017 general election where Mwabe worked briefly with Masara.

The first time MP has in the past been seen drumming support for Ochillo Ayacko to succeed Governor Okoth Obado.

But his about-turn and open support for Mwabe Sunday April 3 at Migori Primary left his supporters confused after he called on them to turn up in their hundreds for Mwabe’s gubernatorial bid launch slated for Monday April 4 at the same venue.

“Tomorrow, both Mwabe and Pamela are launching their gubernatorial bids at Migori Primary and Migori stadium respectively. I urge you to attend Mwabe’s,” said Masara.

He added, “We cannot cross over to another constituency to support someone else yet we have one of our own (Mwabe) having a bigger and better launch in our constituency.”

Masara and Mwabe crafted a political truce ahead of 2017 to unseat the then incumbent Joseph Obiero Ndiege. The two however fell out few months after election in an unclear circumstances.

The last minute call for a second set of truce by Masara, whose support base is wanning, due to his political choises, is somehow perceived as an attempt to woo Mwabe’s supporters most of whom had decamped to Ndiege’s political fold.

On Friday, April 1, Masara skipped a rally at Posta grounds in Migori town allegedly organised by Ayacko, where his arch rival Ndiege, who seeks to make a comeback, played host in the absence of Suna East Mp Junet Mohamed.

There are also talks of a fall-out between Masara and ODM’s top leadersship which may have resulted to the change of tune by the Indipendent party MP.

Ndiege enjoys a huge political following from the larger Suna clan within Suna West constituency; a phenomenon Masara is keen to dilute through Philip Mwabe.

Whether the political marriage between Masara and Mwabe will once again work out remains a subject of wait and see.
