Speaker Boaz released on 50k cash bail over health, to appear with seven others in court on Thursday

Migori police on Wednesday released speaker Boaz Okoth on Sh50,000 cash bail while his seven other suspects will spend the night in police cell over assembly break in at assembly premises.

After over six hours while recording police statement, Okoth was released over poor health and sickness while seven other youths who were arrested with him will cool their heels in Migori police station.

He was released about 4:30pm with aides and several MCAs and staff blocking press cameras from taking shots while he was being led away.

“We released him after complains of sickness and poor health, the case though has been investigated and is ready for court tomorrow where Okoth and seven others will face charges of malicous damage of assembly property and theft,” Wanjala told reporters.

On Wednesday dawn Okoth was arrested for breaking in the assembly after he locked himself in his office for three hours.

Police said the group broke into finance officer Evans Ogutu office where they were carting away two computers and files.

Ogutu was in Nairobi during he breaking and is yet to record a statement.

“Ogutu was in Nairobi and he is coming to record a statement which will help in the case,” Wanjala said.
