Ida helps 10 years old boy at OVI Clinic with rare skin condition

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s wife Ida has offered reprieve for a family in Siaya County a section of media carried the plight of their ten years old son with a rare skin condition.

Kevin Omondi has been receiving treatment at OVI Children Hospital in Migori.

“I am really pleased with the kind of treatment the child is receiving at OVI children’s Hospital which is being funded by well-wishes,” she said.  

The minor’s condition started as an infant and the family has been struggling to seek medication for him.

According to Florence Akoth, a teacher at Agage Primary School in Siaya who traveled with the boy to the OVI Children’s Hospital in Migori said that the boy needed proper medical attention as his skin conditions was affecting his academic performance. 

“He is in grade two while his age mates are in grade four, his condition has affected his education as he needs proper care,” Akoth said.

She said that in most cases, the boy could bleed from all over the body forcing other students to keep distance. This could lower his confidence both in class and when meeting members of the public.”

Nelson Mandela, the medical officer the hospital said that the boy is suffering from a rare skin condition known as Epidermolysis bullosa which is a group of rare diseases that cause fragile and blistering skin.

“This is a genetical skin condition and it may not have a promising cure but we have drugs which can be used to suppress the pain,” Mandela said.
