Education stakeholders in Uriri have raised alarms over high cases of parents allowing school going girls to engage in sex with older men in exchange of favours.

Cases have been reported to area administration over several girls especially in North Kanyamkago sub location of several school girls are dropping out of school due to pregnancy and early marriages.

Area senior Chief Milton Otieno Otieno confirmed that they are putting all their effort to eradicate the scourge.

“We are shocked as some adult men who are married and with children are seriously interfering with girl child education in the region, they mostly target girls in primary schools,” he said.

Recently a man aged 50 years old from the area was arrested with a primary school girl.

Migori child rights activist Sophie Odumo sent a strong warning to men who are involved in such an affair that the law will soon catch up with them.

“We are aware some parents are colluding with the perpetrators in exchange of little money to give their little girls away. The law will not even spare them,” she said.

She said that the best wealth a parent can give to a child is proper education.

She at the same time urged teachers to be on the alert and inform the relevant authority over any interference on the school going children to help in total eradication of the menace.
