Congratulations to Prof Joseph Chacha as the new Masinde Muliro University Vice Chancellor, representing the minority Kuria community and larger Migori county.

Previously Chacha served as the deputy vice chancellor at Maseno University and will now be taking over from Prof Solomon Shibairo who served on an acting capacity from April 2020.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has been without a substantive vice-chancellor for the past 33 months, triggering endless tussles between the management and union officials.

The hiring of a vice-chancellor and deputy vice-chancellors has been bogged down by disagreements, protests and endless litigation, undermining academic programmes.

This was after November 30, 2018 when former vice-chancellor Prof Frederick Otieno’s term ended.
