Migori town residents face dry taps as county fails to pay Sh11m electricity bill

Migori town residents have been facing thirst and dry taps over failure by county government to pay Sh11million accrued electricity bills.

About 3, 482 residents town who directly depend on Migori Water and Sanitation Company (MIWASCO) have been faced with dry taps for close to two months after Kenya Power cut off its power supply.

Migori Kenya Power manager George Nyambare said the county paid Sh2.3 million out of the 13.3 million owed over power supply.

He said Migori still has an outstanding power bill of Sh11 million.

According to the director for Water Linus Odera most residents are illegally connected to water and do not pay their bills on time that has caused the huge bills.

He said they will bring to book the defaulters started their crackdown in Awendo Sub-county after which they will be moving to other sub-counties.
