Amref Health Africa in collaboration with Migori county government have embarked on the biometric registration of 24,000 indigents in Migori county to benefit from the first phase of the Universal Health Care (UHC).

The 24,000 households (indigents) in Migori County currently being registered with the National Insurance Health Fund (NHIF) under the UHC programme in an exercise which is being rolled out in the county this week are part of the 120,000 indigents which have been identified.

Speaking during the launch of biometric registration at Migori stadium, UHC Lead Amref Health Africa Dr. Catherine Kanari said other more indigents will be biometrically registered and given the NHIF card in their next phase.

Kanari said the universal health care rolled out by the government is going to help poor household access better health services like any other person in the country.

Migori county secretary Christopher Rusana said that the county government is working hard to ensure that every ward in Migori county have a dispensary for the sake access to health services.

Rusana said some people have not been able to access better health services because the health facilities have been located away from households.
