Rongo police have launched a manhunt for bhang smuggling cartel after two probox vehicles and a haul in five sacks worth Sh1.94million was impounded at Kanga Machine center.
Police also found a cartoon of white paper used to role bhang in small quantities for sale to users in a raid that involved a road chase which ended up inside a sugarcane plantation with all suspects fleeing.
Rongo police boss Peter Okiring’ told Migori News that police tried to stop a probox which was travelling from Awendo town before it started to speed off.
“They gave a chase and the vehicle took a turn inside a sugarcane plantation and officers trailed it through following tyre marks,” he said.
Police later found another probox vehicle parked as the smugglers, believed to have brought the drugs in the country from Tanzania, tried to changed vehicle.
“On hearing the approaching police van, the suspects ran away. We towed the two vehicles and the haul to Kamagambo police station as we have started investigations,” he said.
