The new Migori county commissioner Meru Mwangi has warned residents against assaulting police officers when implementing COVID-19 regulations.
Meru said there have been reported cases of residents who have tried to violently repulse police doing their work.
He said curfew was a directive from the president and it was not a strategy to punish anyone but to ensure that the ministry of health protocols complied with to the letter.
“The police role is very clear that they execute their mandate with reasonable force and for the community to ensure they abide by the rule of law because it is their responsibility to do that,” Mr. Mwangi said.
Cases of attack on police have been recorded in Kehancha, Ikerege, Rongo and Dede markers across the county.
