A 42 year-old widow from Uriri sub-county is seeking justice after her brother in law repeatedly defiled her over a land tussle.
Penina Alungosi (not her real name) said the culprit has raped her three times with the last incident being inside her home and despite reporting the matter to Uriri police station no action has been taken.
The woman claims that she has made a report at Uriri police station and issued OB No 25/05/2021 where no action was taken by the police
“For the first and second time my in-law had hid in the bush near my home while I was on my way back home from the market and raped me, “she narrated.
She said the last incident in her house was on May 25, 2021 at around 8am.
“I was un aware when he came in through the back door, he place a panga on the table then started straggling with me, he threatening to kill me with the panga on the table once I raised an alarm,” She said
.“He was arrested the following day, but my worry is that the suspect was later released on the same day of the arrest,” she lamented..
She said since her husband died she has been ;left to take care of six children who risk being thrown out of the land over family squabble,
“The culprit is a younger than me and my in-laws have chosen to turn a blind eye to the attacks,” she said.
Gershon Okello FIDA paralegal officer in Migori however faulted the police for not taking proper action on the matters taken to them.
“It has been a great challenge to us also when we were following up on the woman case, we were told by the police that it was not a rape case it was an agreement,” Said Okello.
Okello said that they have several pending cases that have not been handled well with the police, many women and girls who have their cases here have been defiled, raped and also evicted from their lands by force.
