St. Peters Abwao Secondary School in Suna West constituency is grappling with strained infrastructure as they plan to admit over 400 new form ones next year.
The school currently has a population of 532 boys, which will be double the number of students when schools re-open.
“We expected 300 boys from government, but because of our positive results in the previous national examination we have at least 100 boys who have come in to ask for positions,” the principal Jacktone Ogola said.
He said the school currently has four streams which has seen them change a library into a classroom and the board is contemplating to change a laboratory into a dormitory.
“We are also need 13 more teachers we have currently employed 9 from BoM while TSC has 12 teachers,” he said.
Ogola said currently they are strained as they need more classrooms, dormitories and staffing in addition to more lockers, chairs and beds.
“We had government maintenance fund which helped us get two classes and in the last recruitment we had two teachers, but we are still strained,” Ogolla said.
The institution leader said NG-CDF through MP Peter Masara has built a classroom, build water system and offered full scholarship to several students there.
“We can’t chase away boys in the school when they come to seek admission. We plan to tackle these challenges with other stakeholders,” he said.
He said they said they plan to reach a mean of 8.1.
