Ragana villagers celebrate over the new bridge

Ragana residents have lauded Suna West MP Peter Masara for building the Kanyaganda bridge over river Nyamahiriria and road network which have been ignored by his predecessors.

Residents said former legislators Joseph Ndiege and John Pesa have been using the bridge which connects Ragana and villages of Kiterere, Obuya and Kanyanganda as campaign pledges without any appeal making it a center for pledges.

“We only became relevant during election cycles when bloggers used to take photos of a makeshift wooden bridge we had constructed to bash rivals in social media, this is now over,” Mzee Caleb Kabaka, Ragana village elder said.

Felly Ambio, another village elder said because the place was remote and caused by lack of proper bridge residents were cut off during heavy rains as a makeshift bridge build using wood was often being swept away.

“On June last year a woman who was being taken to the hospital on a wooden makeshift stretcher died at the bridge before construction started. During funeral services, mourners too were forced to carry coffins for long distance on shoulders as roads were impassable,” Ambio said.

Residents said they have lost over ten people and several cattle because of the bridge which has now been solved through the Suna West NG-CDF.

“This will now facilitate movement and access to nearby Ragana Primary School and Ragana Dispensary and access to Migori town. We will push for a new primary school, electricity and water to open up the area further,” Emma Abura, a villager said.

Villager said they were forced to wait for water to subside during heavy rains to pass, which will now be a thing of the past.
