Migori county and Kuria community is leading the country is mourning former Kuria East MP Shadrack Manga.
Manga’s son Andrew told the press that Manga passed on aged 81 years old on March 25 at about 6:30pm at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.
“He collapsed at home in Nairobi last week on Wednesday and was rushed to Aga Khan, yesterday he suffered from a cardiac arrest,” Andrew said.
The elderly Manga, a soft spoken man was respected in Kuria community and Migori county and was first elected in parliament to serve the larger Kuria constituency on a Kanu ticket in the 1992 first multi-party elections.
He first was elected as larger Kuria constituency MP on Kanu ticket in 1992 general elections. He was re-elected in 1997 general elections.
He lost to Wilfred Machage in the 2002 and 2007 general elections, before bouncing back in the 2013 general elections as Kuria East MP when the constituency was divided.
“The KANU fraternity is in mourning, he served the party diligently during his tenure as the Migori branch chairman, NEC member and member of the National Assembly,” Gordon Ogola, former Migori speaker and Kanu’s Administrative and Legal officer at the NEC said.
Ogolla said Manga left an indelible mark on his people and is accredited with schooling a multitude of students not only from his constituency but the entire Migori County.
“His wisdom in difficult situations and services will be greatly missed,” Ogolla said adding he was among key Migori leaders who pushed through the first negogiated demobracy between Luos and Kurias in the county.
