Jasolo, Bosco demand Covid 19 allowances for teachers before re-opening

Teachers are demanding risk allowance before learning institutions re-open fully in January as the government should also ensure enough facilities for quality teaching process.

The teachers unions said teachers deserve risk allowance beside others as lecturers and students should be tested before resuming the learning process in schools.

KNUT and KUPPET officials led by Samuel Orwa Jasolo and Eunice Bosco expressed concern over safety of lecturers and learners and appealed for quick response from the government to avail adequate facilities and water as sure way of containing spread of the virus.

It is government responsibility to provide lecturers and learners with all requirements and also ensure guidelines to contain spread of Covi19 are strictly followed and ensure quality learning process to all learners.

The union officials blamed the education cabinet secretary Prof George Magoha over hurry instead of consulting on strategies to curb Covi19 spread in learning centers countrywide.

They said the CS should not  assume that life is back to normal and should not put lecturers and learners lives at risk by harassing lecturers to resume work before schools are fumigated to ensure conducive atmosphere for learning process to be on uninterrupted.

Jasolo challenged education officials to be considerate and mindful to assist the government in ensuring teaching material are available in all schools before the process resume in January.

The union official said they will not allow their members lives to at risk and government should provide all that will be  required to fully conduct learning process uninterrupted.

They said giant schools will need extra classrooms, dormitories to ensure social distancing and allow lecturers to offer quality teaching to all learners.

The union officials also demanded modern toilets in all public institutions and provide water tanks or piped waters to all public schools to enable teachers concentrate on their profession.

To achieve quality learning, the government should ensure all public institutions are also connected to electricity so that in areas far away from rivers, boreholes be sink and electricity available to pump water as learners will be required to wash hands every minute.

The union officials made the sentiments while giving last respect the late Principle of Oyugi Ogango girls in Rongo sun county who was laid to rest at Opapo village.

The late Martha Adang’o Ouma passed on two weeks back following complications she developed as she had history of diabetic among other ailments.

The principal survived by large family and was role model to fellow lecturers and learners and thousands of teachers thronged her home at Opapo to pay last respect.

The union officials also cautioned teachers not to embarrass employer by engaging in activities tainting image of the employer, arguing that the TSC teachers should stay in decent houses as they are paid house allowance and should rent decent rental houses near their work stations.

The teachers were also advised to avoid excessive drinking of alcohol but deliver quality results on national exams.the union officials also pleaded with teachers to remain sober during school days and ensure coverage of syllabus in time.

The teachers should also avoid taking alcohol during day time so that learners don’t copy irresponsible lecturers indulging in moral activities
