Micontrap-Kenya, a non- government organisation based in Migori town is set to roll out help to over 1,000 girls from Kuria and Maasai communities.
The organisation rolled out a ‘Dignity Kit’ program which will help target girls from the two communities where it has helped in fighting FGM.

Benter Ombwayo, the group’s coordinator who lives in Norway said the kits will come in hand in helping health clubs in several schools they had started.
“We had in place the health clubs which have been key in ending FGM among the Kuria and Maasai communities and the dignity kitties will help in fighting the vice,” she said.

The kits have the following items in them: two kits of sanitary towels, an underwear, a hand soap, a toothbrush, a tooth paste, two tissue papers, a face mask and petroleum jelly.
“The items were picked after consultation with the girls in the health clubs who had their input and we are happy that distribution will be ongoing,” Ombwayo said.

Micontrap chairperson Colleta Bwahi said despite schools being in partial lock down, the organisation will still plan activities around communities in schools to reach their target.
“Despite schools being in partial lock down cases of FGM and gender based violence never went into partial lock down, we will continue with the activities in line with WHO laid down rules on prevntion of spread of Covid 19,” she said.

The program is funded by Pan-African Women Association in Norway (PAWA) and Forum for Women and Development (Fokus).
